Dear Parents and Guardians,
I hope everyone had a wonderful summer! I teach seventh and eighth grade Science for the Humanities Academy at Walter Reed Middle School. I grew up in Southern California, after high school I earned my Bachelor degree in Liberal Arts and Sciences. I was part of a cohort at CSUN where I earned my Multiple Subject Credential. I have also earned my General Science Credential, Health Science Credential and my Gifted and Talented Certification in 2010. I have been teaching for LAUSD since 2006. My experience includes teaching Life Science, Physical Science, Earth Science as well as English, Mathematics, Health, Art and Ancient Civilizations. I am thrilled to be teaching Science for the Humanities Academy. Science is fun, creative, explorative and it is all around us. We will be examining scientific concepts by focusing on big ideas, patterns, contributions of scientific discoveries, how contributions have changed over time and making evidence-based predictions using text. Students will participate in labs/experiments, projects, flexible grouping and cooperative learning. In my spare time I enjoy the arts and ceramics (especially wheel- throwing), zip-lining, reading, painting, traveling and walking my dog Enzo. I look forward to meeting you soon! Mrs. Montiel |
